The Competitive Edge

E-Athletes tend to develop faster problem-solving abilities and increased reaction times. But with great performance comes great responsibility for your health.

The Biggest Enemy: Burnout

The biggest enemy of every E-sports player around the world is BURNOUT. Burnout arises from exposure to continuous stress which is poorly managed.

One study has shown that the heart rate of an E-Athlete during competition was equal to that of a Formula 1 driver in action.

Tips to Improve Overall Health

1

Get Quality Sleep

Aim to have at least 8 hours of sleep a night. Good quality sleep is crucial to maintaining focus and improving decision making. REM sleep, which is the stage of sleep when you dream, has been shown to be important for learning, memory and emotional health.

2

Stay Physically Active

Try to have at least 30 minutes of exercise per day. Playing esports for long periods of time can lead to elevated levels of cortisol. Staying physically active is important. Not only does exercise benefit physical fitness, it can also improve mental well-being and reduce tension.

3

Take Regular Breaks

Practice, but remember to take breaks. Players are known to experience fatigue when playing repeated matches. Don't forget your brain also needs rest to perform at its best.

4

Eat Right

Avoid fast or processed food. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and nutritional options instead of fast food. Keep a check on your caffeine intake as well.

5

Stay Hydrated

Take ample amount of fluids and keep yourself hydrated. Proper hydration is essential for maintaining concentration and cognitive performance during intense gaming sessions.
